There are countless construction sites across the world where buildings and infrastructure like houses, dams, office blocks, roads and railways are being built. Here are five of the largest ones currently being built!
1. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge
Spanning China’s Pearl River Delta, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is set to be the world’s longest bridge when it is eventually completed. It will be an incredible 50 kilometres long and connect the three cities of Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macau. It is forecast to cost over 10 billion US dollars.
2. Jubail II
Jubail II is a project which aims to expand Saudi Arabia’s Jubail Industrial City which was originally built in the 1970s. The largest industrial city on the entire planet, its continuing expansion will lead to the installation of 4 metre wide pipelines to transport water from the sea to the city in vast volumes. It is scheduled to be completed in 2026 and will cost an estimated 11 billion US dollars.
3. Beijing Daxing International Airport
On the back of the three decades’ worth of explosive economic growth that has catapulted China into the world’s second biggest economy, Beijing has been investing enormous sums into infrastructure so that it can further open up its economy to the world. Beijing Daxing International Airport will be the capital’s second airport when completed and is forecast to handle up to 100 million passengers annually. It is due to cost 13 billion US dollars.
